Hair Flippin' and Head Bangin'

To power your way through this Thursday, try this hard rocking song on for size. With blazing solos and crazy fretwork, “Shout” was written by Black Tide. This Latino band is based out of Miami and are getting big fast. They’ve already toured with “Avenged Sevenfold” and “All That Remains” and they aren’t stopping anytime soon. I picked this song in particular because it gives a good representation of what the band can really do. Aside from the opening with what sounds like a loud speaker, this band has a habit of being able to speed up and slow down beautifully. The singer, Gabriel Garcia, has a great voice for the music and makes me want to “scream my heart out” along with him. Combine this with the frequent rhythmic solos and a cool bridge and one can see that Black Tide has the potential to go very far. For best effects I recommend playing this song while driving with the volume all the way up and all your windows down. If you can hear your own voice, the volume isn’t high enough.

I really wonder if this song does in fact have Christian overtones. Some of the lyrics suggest this. “You’ll never be alone, you’ll never be alone.” On the other hand this might be representative of the universal theme of shouting “your heart out.” This song revolves around self empowerment and just yelling with the music. To really appreciate such a song, it has to be shouted quite literally, if for nothing else than anger management. We all need to shout at the world occasionally and Black Tide focuses on that need. Whether by crying with the guitar or the singers wailing voice “Shout” really does make noise.
